Hawaiian Culture: Hula and Music

Tom Ken Yamamoto serves as President of the Hawaii–Okinawa Federation and has been involved in Hawaii’s education for many years, including work with the Hawaii State Department of Education and as an elementary school teacher. As a Guest Educator onboard, today he shared a lecture on Hawaiian culture, focusing mainly on the historical and cultural significance of hula and music. Hawaiian culture is widely known for hula, Hawaiian music, the ukulele, and many other traditions. By learning about the history and mythology behind these familiar cultural expressions, we were able to gain a deeper appreciation and feel an even greater sense of the richness and attraction of Hawaiian culture.
