Nov.24th

Maria Eugenia Villarreal is a member of the international steering group for ICAN, works on a range of issues including gender, equality, political analysis, and policy statements, and recently spoke onboard about the current state of nuclear weapons in Latin America. Maria works for SEHLAC, which promotes the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development as well as security networks in Latin America. Maria spoke about how the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty is being promoted in Latin America by Costa Rica, Mexico, and Cuba, and how ICAN winning the Nobel Peace Prize serves as an inspiration to continue her work. There were many questions at the end of her lecture, one which served to give everyone an opportunity to think more about the issue of nuclear weapons today.
