Beyond Memory: The Meaning of Living

This year marks 80 years since the end of World War II, and Peace Boat is carrying out a project titled TIME FOR PEACE to once again appeal for action for peace around the globe. As part of this project, we invite atomic bomb survivors to travel with us and share their testimonies onboard and in ports of call. Today, we welcomed Guest Educator Ms. Fukushima Tomiko, who was exposed to the atomic bombing in Nagasaki at the age of seven months. Drawing on the stories she heard from her family, she has dedicated herself to passing on these memories as a testimony-bearer. With the conviction that “even without memories of my own, there is something I can do,” Ms. Fukushima continues to share and pass on the testimonies of survivors. The audience listened quietly and attentively to her words, as she connected memories of the past to a call for peace.
