95th Highlights: What is Montessori? – Education that does not intervene lives to grow

Takako Fukatsu, an advisor to the Peace Boat Montessori program, gave a lecture on the Montessori education.

The Montessori education was developed by an Italian physician and educator, Maria Montessori. Ms. Fukatsu said “The Montessori education is a method of education that does not intervene the lives to grow. All the children have an inner educator within themselves. Education is not what is important only for children, but for a lifetime.” What children experience in their early childhood affects the adolescence, Ms. Fukatsu explained. Some participants said “I’m so glad that I learned about the Montessori education before I become a parent.” It was a good opportunity to think what education should be.
