Cruise Report

We arrived to Port Said, an egyptian port city located just before the Suez Canal. It is located 200 kilometers away from Cairo and has a population of 500,000 people. Today we will go to Cairo, and will visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities to see an exposition of acient objects that include some treasures of Tutankhamun (Tutankhamen)! The museum is always very busy and full of tourists from Egypt and overseas. Everyone enters very excited and with high expectations due to the very rare objects in display.

Just after entering the museum, I got so impressed by the giant statues that are lining up! I feel like being transported to ancient Egypt.

In the exhibition, the mummy of Ramses the second was in display. Mummifying bodies and putting them in a grave was an indispensable ritual in order to reach the other world.

There are also a lot of Hieroglyphs from ancient Egypt. After discovering the Rossetta Stone, the meaning of this hieroglyphs were decyphered, letting us understand that these thousands of symbols represent the language diagrammatically. It is believed that these hieroglyphs were used in Egypt until the 4th century AD.

If we talk about Egypt, we can’t avoid takling about the three major pyramids of Giza, one of the seven wonders of the world. The three pyramids were built in Giza, right next to Cairo, for King Menkaure, King Kaffler and Kuhfu who ruled ancient Egypt. Being able to see such wonderful constructions could be one of my most remarkable highlights of this day.

In the blink of an eye, the sun starts to set. It is time to say goodbay to Cairo. Including the transportation time, it was a long day. However, I was so happy to be able to feel the charm of the Egyptian culture during our visit in this port of call.
