[102nd Cruise Report]Montreal (Canada)

Oct.17th

Today the Ocean Dream arrived for the first time in the port of Montreal, Canada. The second-largest city in Canada, Montreal is also the second-largest French-speaking city in the world after Paris. Docking right in the middle of the autumn foliage season, the maple leaves, notably on the Canadian national flag, covered the city in beautiful colours. Stepping off from the ship, the Notre Dame cathedral comes into view only a 10 minute walk from the port.

Built in 1829, the Gothic style cathedral is truly a sight to behold. Its beauty and mysterious atmosphere takes your breath away, with its ornate stained glass windows depicting Montreal’s religious history, and pipe organ with some 7000 pipes. As you study the intricate details, time suddenly slips away.

After the cathedral, it was time for lunch at a local restaurant where we had bolognaise and poutine. Canada’s famous national dish of poutine is french fries with gravy and cheese curds on top, which with some added bolognaise makes for a delcious treat!

With full stomachs, we set out into the city again. Walking down streets that looked like they were straight from movie sets, even in the rain it was a beautiful way to pass the time.

Amongst all the beautiful little stores, we discovered a cute little cafe! Ordering a coffee, we took a break and chatted whilst watching the world go by.

Set against the rainy backdrop of the city, Montreal is a beautiful city to walk around, albeit for a visit far too short.
