Stop at Cristobal (Panama)

Oct 26, 2017
The Ocean Dream stops at Cristobal, the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. We joined a sightseeing
tour for the day.

A bright yellow and red train awaits our arrival at Colon Station.

The Panama Canal Railway was opened in 1855, around 60 years before the canal was completed. It was
the main mode of travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans until the opening of the canal, and is
currently used by workers traveling to and from Colon and other cities.

Next, we board a bus to tour Panama City.

At France Square we see the statue of Lesseps, the Frenchman who initiated construction of the canal, and
also a statue of Cuban doctors who helped workers infected with malaria during construction.
Panama has plenty to offer us on this exciting day.
