After departing Cristobal, the Pacific World finally began its transit through the Panama Canal, one of the highlights of this cruise. As many guests watched from the decks, the ship entered a narrow waterway known as a lock. Once the gates behind the ship are closed, a large amount of water is flowed in, gradually raising the vessel. As the water level rises, the next set of gates is opened — and through this repeated process, the ship overcomes an elevation difference of 26 meters above sea level, eventually reaching the vast lake and then the Pacific Ocean. This was a memorable day, witnessing both the systematic process of the canal transit and also enjoying the breathtaking natural scenery surrounding the waterway. This became an extraordinary experience unique to cruising.
