[99th Cruise Report]Report session:the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum

Nov.1st

A group of participants who temporary left the ship in Portugal’s Porto in order to join a special study programme to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, on the site of the former concentration camps, held a report back session after they returned to the ship. During the Holocaust, it is said that throughout Europe, more than 6 million people were killed in this genocide. How is it that such brutal crimes could be perpetrated? What happened at Auschwitz, and what is it like today? During the visit, participants also heard testimony directly from survivors, who told them “we hope that you can all live happily, and that noone will experience what we did.” During their report session, participants shared that “through joining this programme we could learn about the facts, and the importance of what we need to think about from these lessons.” This was an opportunity for us all to reflect upon the importance of learning about the past, thinking, and passing on these facts and lessons.
