Visiting the Uyuni Salt Flats

We temporarily left the ship to visit the vast salt flats of Uyuni, surrounded by the Andes Mountains. The expansive salt flats were formed when large amounts of seawater remained on the mountain tops after the Andes were lifted from the sea floor. The water does not flow away after rain but instead gathers on the land, creating the mystical “mirror of the sky” effect. Reflection of the sky in the lake offers a breathtakingly beautiful sight.
