The Pacific World sailed across the Pacific Ocean and called at Puerto Quetzal, a port town in Guatemala, Central America. Although the country is relatively small, it is rich in attractions, including ancient Mayan ruins and UNESCO World Heritage historic cities. On the first day of the port call, we visited the beautiful Lake Atitlán, located in the country’s inland highlands. Formed by a massive volcanic eruption around 84,000 years ago, the caldera lake is framed by three magnificent stratovolcanoes. The breathtaking scenery, with clouds drifting around the volcanoes, made for a truly peaceful and unforgettable experience.
