95th Highlights: Cuba-Mexico Disaster Relief
14th Oct. 2017
A session was held onboard to report about damage from natural disasters in two countries we will call at during this voyage. In early September, Cuba was ravaged by hurricane Irma, flooding the capital Havana waist deep in water, causing power outages, and forcing over a million people to seek shelter. Then in mid-September, Mexico was rocked by a M.7.1 earthquake, causing widespread damage and leaving more than 200 people dead. Peace Boat is working with our partners on the ground to provide emergency support. Donations collected onboard will be delivered to our partners when the ship calls at Cuba and Mexico. We are all hoping for a swift recovery from these disasters.
