The Pacific World arrived at the port of Nagasaki. Having long served as Japan’s primary window to foreign trade, Nagasaki is a captivating city filled with exotic charm. While taking in the unique atmosphere of this hillside city with its winding stone-paved staircases, we visited notable landmarks including the National Treasure and World Heritage site, Oura Church, as well as Glover House—known as the oldest existing wooden Western-style residence in Japan. For lunch, we sampled Nagasaki Champon noodles and Turkish Rice (a dish uniquely local to the area), allowing us to experience Nagasaki’s fascinating blend of Eastern and Western cultures from multiple angles.
