Arrival in Port Louis, Mauritius

The Pacific World has docked in Port Louis, the capital of the island nation of Mauritius. We were welcomed by majestic green mountains and breathtaking turquoise waters framed by coral reefs. Shaped by European colonization and a history of enslaved people brought from Africa, alongside indentured laborers from India and Southeast Asia, Mauritius has forged a unique multicultural and multiethnic identity.
Simply walking through the city streets offers a fascinating glimpse into its diverse cultures and customs. At a large commercial complex in the waterfront district, vibrant colorful umbrellas hung overhead—a scene that beautifully symbolizes the harmonious mosaic of people who call this country home.
