Aug 31st, 2017

Mr. Chihiro Kato, a former editor of Asahi Newspaper and now a professor of Global Studies at Doshisha University Graduate School, gave a lecture on the relations between Kyoto and China. He explained about the three elements that connected Kyoto and China – “Zen”, “Tea” and “academics”.

“I can’t say that the relationship between Japan and China is very close today. For it to improve, we need to recognize the warmth of our cultures. It might take a while, but over time that is what will help thaw the relationship” Mr. Kato said at the end of his lecture.

He gave us a chance to rethink Japan-China relations through history and culture.
