Making the most of our two-day stay in Guatemala, we had the opportunity to visit Tikal, the largest ancient city of the Maya civilization in the country’s northern region. Construction of Tikal began before the Common Era, and the city reached its peak between A.D. 300 and 800. Today, the site is home to around 3,000 structures, including steep pyramids and majestic temples, with some rising as high as 65 meters. Climbing to the top of Temple IV, Tikal’s most iconic pyramid, revealed a breathtaking panorama of dense jungle stretching endlessly below, its lush canopy almost concealing the ancient ruins beneath. Visiting this remarkable site—once reclaimed by the rainforest after the collapse of the Maya civilization—was an unforgettable experience, allowing us to immerse ourselves in its mysterious and timeless atmosphere.
