[101st Cruise Report]Call to Port Said (Egypt)

May.17th

The Ocean Dream, after passing through the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Red Sea, arrived in Port Said in Egypt. It was cool in the morning, but as the sun rose up, the temperature also rose rapidly. It was cool under the shade of the trees, but under the heat of the sun you could feel its rays piercing your skin. First off, we headed to the Egyptian Archaeological Museum with the golden mask of the world’s most famous mummy, King Tutankhamen. The treasures of the successive pharaohs are on display, and the famous Ramses II now rests here. The museum is famous worldwide, and the hall is full of tourists. Various languages can be heard from direction.

Next, we headed to the Three Great Pyramids of Giza, the largest of them being the Pyramid of Khufu, which is 137 meters high, and is built of approximately 2.3 million stones each weighing an average of 2.5 tons. Take a walk in the desert sands and get close to the pyramids, you will be overwhelmed by the size of each stone!

The last thing we saw was a 57 meter long and 20 meter high statue with the head of a human, and the body of a lion-faced Sphinx.

In Egypt, an Islamic country, you can hear the calls to prayer from the spire of the Islamic temple. I could feel Egypt’s energy from the sounds around me while watching the magnificent pyramids.

Today’s journey was full of great weather, and Egyptian history and culture. We still want to have more fun here, but many World Heritage sites are waiting for us on journey ahead! The Ocean Dream, which has now departed from Port Said, will head for Santorini which floats in the Aegean Sea.
